JIMMIE RODGERS-COUNTRY SINGER is the self-taught American musician, singer, and songwriter best known as the father of country music. In 1928, a year after graduating from the Fisk Jubilee Singers, in his early 20s he recorded the first versions of such country classics as "Black-Eyed Susan" and "I'm A Wanderer". Featuring his own composition "Blue Yodel #9", sung by himself, Jimmie's vocals span over five decades. His songs have been covered by numerous artists and musicians including Hank Williams, Ella Fitzgerald, Patsy Cline, Roy Acuff, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, Kathy Mattea, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Horton, Loretta Lynn, and Hank Williams Jr. He is the only country musician to have won a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, and a Tony Award, a record he shares with Carol Channing and Carol Burnett. In 2005, Jimmie was named the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year. He has received several awards and recognitions from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Academy of Country Music, the Broadcast Music Incorporated, and the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. Jimmie Rodgers is often referred to as the "Father of Country Music" and "the Father of Bluegrass Music".
